ReadVirtual reality for neurological rehabilitation
Virtual reality Action Observation Treatment (Meta Quest) for neurological rehabilitation, with CNR in Parma. Published in Data (MDPI).
Action Observation Treatment (AOT) promotes motor rehabilitation by activating the mirror neuron system. Virtual reality can maximise its effects: it offers a three-dimensional, immersive experience of the action, observed from a viewpoint compatible with the observer's body schema.
With the CNR Institute of Neuroscience in Parma, in Giacomo Rizzolatti's team, I have been supervising an action observation treatment in virtual reality on Meta Quest headsets since 2021. The treatment is designed so that the rehabilitation outcome is maximised and predictable: clinicians know what to expect.
Publication
The work is published as a peer-reviewed exercise repertoire: A Repertoire of Virtual-Reality, Occupational Therapy Exercises for Motor Rehabilitation Based on Action Observation, Data (MDPI), vol. 7, no. 1.
It continues a path that began with Mirrorable, the augmented reality rehabilitation system developed with the same team.
